POKER HANDS RANKINGS

The basic idea behind poker is that the player with the best hand wins. This being said, here is a look at all of the poker hands ranked from best to worst.

Royal Flush

A royal flush consists of an ace-high straight with all five cards being of the same suit. An example would be Ah-Kh-Qh-Jh-10h. Royal flushes are the best hand you can possibly get in poker, but they are extremely rare.

Straight Flush

The next best hand on the poker totem pole is a straight flush, which involves getting a straight where all of the cards are of the same suit. 7c-6c-5c-4c-3c would be a straight flush because this straight includes all clubs.

Four-of-a-Kind

If youre able to get four cards of the same rank, you will have a four-of-a-kind. 9h-9c-9s-9d-6d would be a four-of-a-kind.

Full House

The next best thing to a four-of-a-kind is a full house. With a full house, you have three cards of the same rank along with two other cards of the same rank. A full house example would be Qh-Qd-Qs-8c-8h.

Flush

Assuming you can get any five cards of the same suit in your hand, you will have a flush. As-5s-7s-4s-Js would be a flush, and as you can see, the cards dont have to be in any particular order.

Straight

A straight involves five non-suited cards in sequence. For instance, 10d-9h-8s-7c-6h would be a straight.

Three-of-a-Kind

Match any three cards of the same rank and you have a three-of-a-kind. 5d-5h-5c-7s-Jd is an example of a three-of-a-kind.

Two Pair

When you form two cards of the same rank along with two other cards that are of equal value, you have a two pair. 6c-6h-8s-8c-Qd illustrates a two pair.

One Pair

If you have two cards of the same rank in your hand, youll have a (one) pair. For example, Kc-Ks-7h-3c-2s is a pair.

High Card

When you fail to get any of the hands above, your hand value is measured by the highest card. So in this hand 4s-7h-9c-Jd-Kh, the king would be your high card since this hand has no other value.
